Does Sewing make you hurt?

Do you love to sew? Have you been sewing for years or just a few? Does it make you hurt? I know it did for me.

Over 40 years I went from being able to sew all day long to not at all.

That is when I decided to sell fabric and develop my patterns into a PDF format so I could sell them online as downloads.

I changed my diet (Paleo, then Keto) and that helped a lot. I was able to start sewing small projects again, like baby booties. If I tried to do more than that I would be down for days with a fibromyalgia flareup and arthritis pain.

I researched CBD. I tried several brands. Some helped, but I had issues with them, like my throat burning when I took it. (not all CBD is created the same)

Then I was introduced to this all-natural, organic brand. What a difference! I got my bottle just before we left to visit my family in NC. It took me 3 days before I noticed I could move my arm without a nerve in my shoulder pinching. Then I noticed I had more stamina. We went to a Rennaissance Faire and we walked around all day without any problems until we were walking out to where we parked, then my legs started getting shin splints. I would usually get them walking half a block.

It has been 5 months since I started taking this brand. Most of my pain is gone and when I do overexert myself, I recover by morning instead of in weeks.

I have been able to make jeans quilts again. I mention them because of all the pairs of jeans that need cutting, their weight and having to heft them to sew them.

Upcycling Denim Blue Jeans, Quilt Project Pt. 2

My cousin gave me an old wool blanket to use in my next project, so I did. I cut 10 inches off the side, measured it, cut it to the right length and sewed it to the bottom. Perfect fit!

 I then determined how long the ex-wide middle piece of fleece needed to be to fit squarely in the center, then cut the tie-dye fleece to make an even border. I cut the tie-dye 3 inches wider than was needed so I could use it to self-bind the quilt on to the front.

   I started making another Jeans Quilt a few days ago. This one is to match the last one I made for our little Vintage Camper so when the table is made down into a bed, both beds will match. I know, it's very Virgo of me. I accept that quirk.

Added border strips to the top and bottom

Cut out, sewn and trimmed pinwheel blocks

I decided to use Pocket blocks on this one instead of the 4 patch block I used on the previous quilt.

Sewed the pinwheel blocks and pocket blocks together, then sewed them to the top and bottom of the quilt.

Cut and sewed strips together

Sewed them to the top and bottom, then added the long side strips.

Cut out, sewed and trimmed the 4 corner pinwheel blocks

I cut 40 more short strips, sewed them together, added the pinwheel blocks to each end, and pinned them to the sides of the quilt.

I sewed them down both sides finishing the top.
